Sermon Art: “One”

In today’s sermon, I continued to preach through Jesus’ prayer in John 17. In the sermon, I talked about that Jesus prayed that His followers would be one as He and the Father are one. Many folks have given up on the church because when they peek over the fence into the church, they do not see any sense of oneness or unity. Instead they see believers of Jesus devouring one another. This is not what Jesus had in mind for His church. He desires His followers to be unified in Him and His work, both on and off the cross. This is where I was going when I was talking about the passive and active obedience of Christ. His passive obedience satisfied the requirements of the law and His active obedience satisfied the wrath of God. To illustrate these points, I used three pieces of art. The first was a song called “Please Come”, by Nichole Nordeman. You can download it on Itunes. The second was a video clip of U2 and Mary J. Blige singing “One”. The third was a commercial of a “human snowball”. The last two can be seen below.

Needless to say, my boys and Norm’s boys are a little different from one another. You gotta love the diversity. Enjoy the videos below:

The Podcasts I Listen to…

Ever since a guy named Steve stole my car stereo back in January, my Ipod has become a good friend. Like many of you, I have a long commute to work (I drive up to Fletcher about 3 times a week). Those long drives aren’t so bad thanks to the podcasts I listen to. One of my favorites is “Steve Brown, Etc.”. Steve Brown is an author and professor and his podcast is a mix of theology, culture, and humor. Check it out by clicking here.
