Each night before Luke and Jack go to bed, we have about an hour of “family time”.  I am beginning to really enjoy this time (there are some nights, I just want to veg in front of the TV or just go to bed myself).  “Family time” consists of all of us playing in Luke and Jack’s bedroom.  We play with swords, dress up in super hero costumes, play with legos, etc.  We also read, a lot.  All kinds of books and stories.  I usually read a story from the Jesus Storybook Bible (the best children’s Bible I’ve ever seen).  But before all the reading, we listen to music, all kinds of music.  A few months ago, we were into Journey and Boston.  Now, Luke and Jack have discovered the wonderful decade of the 80’s.  Here is a sampling of what’s been on the CD player this week:

Luke’s Colon and a Sara Groves Song

dsc_3813
Thank you so much for your prayers this week. We are still trying to get our heads and hearts around our time in Winston yesterday. The news is that there is definitely a problem with Luke’s colon. The hard thing is that the surgeon does not know what is wrong with it. After six months of Luke not using his colon (due to the illestomy he received last Spring), it is still swollen. A normal person’s colon would be the size of a pencil, but Luke’s is still pretty big. So, we have a few options. Option #1: Luke continues to wear a colostomy bag for an indefinite period of time. Option #2: Luke has his entire colon removed, which would be permanent. Option #3: The Lord supernaturally or through an unknown medical procedure heals Luke’s colon. There is a hospital in Cincinnati that looks at patients like Luke. We’ve decided to wait another six months (Luke will continue wearing a bag) and we will go back to Winston and see what his colon looks like in May. Please pray for the Lord to heal his colon so that the docs can reconnect everything and Luke can look forward to a somewhat normal life in the future. Either way it goes, we believe the Lord is good and He has a plan for Luke.

I heard this song today by Sara Groves called “Hello Lord” that sums up how I am feeling. Here are the lyrics:

Hello Lord, it’s me your child
I have a few things on my mind
Right now I’m faced with big decisions
And I’m wondering if you have a minute, cuz
Right now I don’t hear so well
And I was wondering if you could speak up

I know that you tore the veil
So I could sit with you in person
And hear what you’re saying but
Right now, I just can’t hear you.

I don’t doubt your sovereignty
I doubt my own ability to
Hear what you’re saying
And to do the right thing
And I desperately want to do the right thing
But right now I don’t hear so well
And I was wondering if you could speak up

I know that you tore the veil
So I could sit with you in person
And hear what you’re saying but
Right now, I just can’t hear you.

And somewhere in the back of my mind
I think you are telling me to wait
And though patience has never been mine
Lord, I will wait to hear from you
Oh Lord, I’m waiting on you

Right now I don’t hear so well
And I was wondering if you could speak up

I know that you tore the veil
So I could sit with you in person
And hear what you’re saying but
Right now, I think you’re whispering
